Compare AI Friendship Settings
A friendship label, a written boundary, and a saved memory solve different problems. Use this comparison to choose which control to inspect first; it does not rank apps or establish which one consistently avoids romance.
Nomi and Replika documentation was reviewed September 17, 2026. WantYou’s entry uses the saved public-page observation from September 15, 2026; its chat and gated terms were not tested or accepted.
Match the control to the problem
If you want to describe how a conversation should feel, start with the written instruction you can inspect and revise. An original example is: “Discuss books with me as a platonic friend. Use my name, avoid romantic roleplay, and ask about the topic when the conversation stalls.” This states an activity as well as a limit.
If a conversation has acquired a relationship label you did not intend, inspect the relationship setting before writing a longer prompt. If a particular saved fact is wrong, inspect that entry separately. A relationship label, a boundary note, and a saved fact are different pieces of context; changing one does not establish that the others have changed.

Read the limits
“Not verified” means the review does not establish the answer. It does not mean that the feature is absent. A documented control is also not evidence of how consistently a character follows it.
If a strict absence of romance is essential, this comparison does not establish a suitable product. In particular, WantYou’s public romantic positioning is a mismatch with that requirement, and its suitability has not been verified. Prices, regional access, account requirements, and privacy practices are outside the verified comparison.
A short check you can repeat
This is a suggested observation routine, not a product benchmark:
- Write down the behavior you want to avoid, such as a particular pet name. Keep the example specific enough to recognize again.
- Inspect the relevant documented control and note its current value. Do not change several settings at once if you want to understand which change helped.
- Make one change, then start with a neutral topic such as a hobby. Avoid including private details just to test a response.
- Review what the AI actually says. One acceptable reply is an observation about that exchange, not proof about future chats.
- If the unwanted behavior returns, use the troubleshooting guide or end the conversation. Repeating an instruction indefinitely is not a requirement.
Questions before you commit
Can you find the control in your current version of the app? Can you understand and change its value? Does the current service description fit the kind of conversation you want? Check account requirements, current terms, and privacy information directly before deciding what to share or buy. This article does not compare prices or establish that any product meets those requirements.
For a low-stakes first conversation, choose a book or game prompt and keep the topic narrow. You can prepare your wording here without creating an account with another service.
